Programs for children ages 3 years 6 mos - 5 years 5 mos (not in Kindergarten)

Bilingual Storytime | Book Buddies | Preschool Storytime | Reading Club | Sing and Play Ole | 75th Anniversary Party

BILINGUAL STORYTIME

Presented in English and Spanish. This storytime is for those who are interested in exposing their children to the Spanish language. It is also suitable for those children learning English as a second language. Children will hear stories, sing songs and view short videos in both languages. They will also do a simple craft. Program runs for four weeks.

BOOK BUDDIES

Teens and children become "buddies" by sharing books and a positive library experience. Children get a chance to practice their reading skills and/or be read to, while teens gain volunteer experience, community service credit and a chance to make a difference in a child's life.
All Buddies (both little and big) receive certificates of participation.

As one "Little Buddy" commented at the end of his first session, "this is awesome!"

PRESCHOOL STORYTIME

For this program, children should be able to separate from their parent/caregiver. (Please Note: All parents or caregivers must remain in the library during storytime.)

Each week children will enjoy stories, learn new songs and poetry
and make a simple craft, all focused on a specific theme.
Program runs for five weeks.

BI-ANNUAL READING CLUBS

Reading Clubs are for Children and Teens who reside in the City of Long Beach School District (Point Lookout, Lido Beach, Long Beach and East Atlantic Beach)

The goal of the reading club is to foster a love of reading in children and teens. The library works closely with all local area schools and maintains a file of recommended reading lists that may help you and your child select great books to read.

SING AND PLAY OLE

Children and parents alike will enjoy this introductory Spanish class. Through the use of songs, stories, crafts and movement, basic Spanish vocabulary will be presented.

ANNIVERSARY BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR LIBRARY
was held on
November 6, 2003

British Author/Illustrator John Wallace volunteered to read his book
"Little rabbit goes to a Birthday Party"
at our 75th Anniversary Birthday Party for the Long Beach Public Libaray...
Mr. Wallace also demonstrated how he drew the illustrations for his book
"Little Rabbit goes to a Birthday Party" and then donated the drawings
to the Youth Services Department. The drawings and photographs from the party
are framed and hung in the picture book room so that everyone may enjoy them.
